Musarrat Shaheen steps into politics
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Masawat Chairperson Musarrat Shaheen has announced to take part in the next general elections from the district of Dera Ismail Khan. Shaheen, once the most popular Pashtu movies heroine who was in the film industry for more than two decades, made the announcement at the National Press Club on Tuesday where she said she would contest elections against JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi.
Shaheen claimed that she would defeat both of her opponents. The film star turned-politician said 90 percent of her party’s manifesto is similar to Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf.
She claimed she was facing life threats from her political opponents and demanded government protection.
She also asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to not allot symbol of the book to Maulana Fazl, saying it is always used to entice ignorant people.
Shaheen lambasted Maulana Fazl for his failure to provide facilities to his home constituency and called upon him to desist from issuing statements against womenfolk.
