Concerns conveyed to US regarding Balochistan discussion by Congress


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Thursday said that it has conveyed its concern to America for discussion on Balochistan by the US Senate Committee.

Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit in his weekly press briefing here at Foreign Office said,"We have conveyed our concern in Islamabad and Washington on the issue of discussion on Balochistan by US Senate Foreign Relations's Committee and expressed our feelings."

The Spokesman while referring to the statement of the US State Department said that it has explained that US government has nothing to do with this briefing.

He said, "we believe that Washington fully understands our position on this issue."

On the issue of resumption of NATO supply, the spokesman said that parliamentary process is underway, "we should wait for the completion of the prices".

On the issue of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, the spokesman said Pakistan is committed to complete the project by 2014 as per schedule.

He said that there is no change in this project adding that President Asif Ali Zardari yesterday said that Pakistan is looking forward to complete the project to meet energy needs of Pakistan.

The Spokesman said trilateral summit between Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan will be held next week in Islamabad to discuss regional situation, promote cooperation in war against terror and drug trafficking.

About Iran's issue with America, the spokesman said Pakistan wants a peacefull resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations.

He said the volatile region can not afford any further conflict.

Replying to a question the spokesman said Pakistan has kept informed by the American diplomates regarding the contacts between America and Taliban in Qatar. He however said, only Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process will succeed.
