Time for leaders to sacrifice: PM

* Gilani vows to continue PPP’s reconciliation policy

* People have rejected those who claim to get more wickets on one ball

JARANWALA: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday appreciated the contributions, sacrifices and dedication of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers who never compromised and remained loyal to the party.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating different development projects in the area, the prime minister said, “The PPP workers never compromised and remained committed to the party and its leadership.”

He said, “I am proud of the devotion of the workers who remained steadfast with the leadership and rendered sacrifices for strengthening of democratic process in the country.”

He said the PPP was the only party, which rendered sacrifices for the country and for democracy.

The prime minister said, “We will continue the politics of reconciliation, which was introduced by Benazir Bhutto and after the completion of five years, the PPP will go before the masses on the basis of its performance.”

Gilani said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did not compromise and sacrificed his life despite many offers from different countries because he wanted to remain alive in the history.

He said ZAB was still alive in the history after many years of his death.

Referring to the importance of Jaranwala, the prime minister said it was an industrial centre of Faisalabad and had historic importance because Quaid-e-Azam also addressed a public meeting here. He said the PPP was not a political party but a movement, which had played an important role in the progress, prosperity and development of the country.

Gilani said ZAB and Benazir Bhutto had brought revolution to the country for the welfare of masses and no other personality could do so.

He said Benazir Bhutto came to Pakistan to launch a movement for the restoration of the judiciary, ensure the rights of the people and against dictatorship.

He said former president Pervez Musharaf was forced to quit the office of the chief of army staff due to the wisdom of Benazir Bhutto who fought for the rights of the people and did not care for her own life.

The prime minister said that the vision, thought and ideas of ZAB and Benazir Bhutto were still alive in the hearts and minds of the people and that could not be demolished.

“We are in the government due to the vision and thought of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and with the support of the similar political forces,” he added. “We promise to remain committed with the vision, thoughts and ideas of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and carry forward their politics of reconciliation,” he said.

Gilani said the mission of serving the nation and people would continue by the PPP leadership.

He said there had been unprecedented progress during the PPP tenure throughout the country.

Gilani said today every party was saying that they would bring change and defeat all others and even some were saying that they would get more wickets on one ball, but the people had not given them any chance.

He said, “We have done politics of principles and even went to jails but never compromised on principles.”

Regarding the demand to declare Jaranwala a district, he said if all the representatives of the area were agreed then he would ask the provincial government to take the decision on priority basis. He also announced setting up an IT University in Jaranwala.

He also promised to take steps for establishing an Industrial Zone in the area. Gilani also asked the Punjab government to give big city status to Jaranwala. app
