Chattha elected PML-LM chairman, Arbab president

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Like Minded has elected Hamid Nasir Chattha as its chairman, Arbab Ghulam Rahim the new president and Humayun Akhtar Khan as the general secretary.

The meeting of the PML-Like-Minded General Council was held under the chairmanship of Senator Salim Saifullah Khan to elect new leadership of the party for the next three years.

The meeting also elected Salim Saifullah Khan as the chairman of the party’s steering committee, whereas Kashmala Tariq was elected information secretary.

After the elections, the newly elected chairman, Hamid Nasir Chattha, said that they had always promoted democracy within the party. “It is not the party of a particular family, but it is the party of the nation,” he said.

“We have rejected ancestral politics. We chose our president from a smaller province, which reflects that the party is committed to giving rights to every province,” he said.

He said that discussion on Balochistan in the US Congress was illegal, but it was a matter of embarrassment for the whole nation.

He said that the government took loans during four years, which were more than the debt the country had taken in 60 years.

Addressing the meeting through video link, Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that fair, free and impartial elections were not possible in the presence of the sitting rulers. He said that they would snatch Sindh card from the hands of the PPP.

Secretary General Humayun Akhtar Khan said that 2012 was the general election year and the party should prepare for the polls within a short span of time.

Earlier, besides elections, the party General Council discussed the prevailing political situation in the country, conflict between national institutions, law and order situation, target killing in Balochistan, threats to national integrity, corruption, dearness and drug scandal in Punjab in details. online
