Kashmir dispute should be resolved, says MQM chief

* Altaf Hussain says Kashmiri people must not consider themselves alone

Staff Report

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has said Kashmir dispute should be resolved according to the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people living on both sides of the borders if the United Nations (UN) wanted durable peace in the region and the rights of oppressed Kashmiri people must be given.

He said this while talking to the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Chaudhry Abdul Majid on telephone during his visit to the MQM head office Nine Zero here on Sunday. Thanking the AJK PM on his arrival, Hussain said MQM condemned the injustices and oppression against the Kashmiri people in the Indian held Kashmir in the strongest words.

Kashmiri people must not consider themselves alone as the MQM was firmly standing behind each Kashmiri, and its unconditional services were available for their right of self-determination and freedom, he added.

He appealed to the international community, and the UN to play their role for ending the barbarism being committed against the Kashmiri people and resolve the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people living on both sides of the borders. The UN had recognised the rights of Kashmiri people in its resolutions, adding it was the time that those resolutions must be implemented, he remarked. Hussain reiterated that the dispute would have to be resolved if durable peace was to be established in the region. People affected by the catastrophic earthquake were still facing hardships and stressed upon the government to speed up the rehabilitation of the affected people, he added.

AJK PM welcomed the views of Hussain for the rights of the Kashmiri people and thanked him on behalf of the people of Kashmir.
