Altaf disappointed over PM’s indictment
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, on Monday, said that he was extremely sorrowful on the indictment of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the contempt of court case. According to a statement, commenting on the situation developing in the country, Hussain said, “I am very disappointed at what has happened on Monday.” He said that he had been reiterated that the institutions must show respect and dignity for each other and avoid confrontation under all conditions. Now that the prime minister has been formally indicted, the government should show deference to the court proceeding by displaying patience and firmness, he added. Hussain further said any hasty action reflecting emotional response must be avoided, as the country could not afford the confrontation among institutions in present times. Gilani was formally charged with contempt for refusing to ask Swiss authorities to re-open corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. If convicted, he could face up to six months in jail and disqualification from public office. staff report
