KARACHI: In an important political development the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) dominated Sindh Assembly (SA) on Monday has unanimously passed a resolution demanding its own government for making public much awaited Benazir Bhutto (BB) murder investigation report.
PPP lawmaker Ghulam Mujadid Isran moved the resolution, which was passed unanimously by the provincial legislative house. Besides PPP, leaders and lawmakers from Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and National Peoples Party also supported the resolution.
The PPP lawmaker brought the resolution on the day when the Supreme Court formally indicted the party-backed Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in contempt of court charges in Islamabad.
The ruling PPP had earlier planned to present the investigation report at the party’s central executive committee meeting on the occasion of the third death anniversary of the party’s slain leader. However, later on, it was deferred due to absence of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the eldest son of Benazir Bhutto.
The resolution unanimously passed by the provincial assembly states, “This Assembly resolves and recommends the provincial government to approach the federal government through Ministry of Interior, Islamabad to publish the investigation report regarding assassination of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and that the report be made public forthwith”.
Later, while talking to journalists, Sindh Information Minister and PPP lawmaker Shazia Marri said Benazir Bhutto was a great leader of the Muslim world who had twice been elected as prime minister of the country. She said that everybody wanted that culprits involved in her assassination should be unearthed.
Responding to a question, the information minister said that appearing the prime minister before the apex court, accompanied by leaders of allied parties, was on one hand a high level respect of judiciary, and at the same time their determination to reconciliatory politics. In this way the political leadership has also given message of strengthening the democracy, she added.
It is pertinent to mention here that different political parties, including some elected members belonging to the ruling PPP had been demanding to make public the investigation report into Benazir Bhutto murder case. PPP leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari, had been mentioning name of Baitullah Mehsud in this connection.
