Budget to be passed in June, debated in May: Hafeez Shaikh

KARACHI: Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Hafeez Shaikh has indirectly admitted that the government will present the forthcoming fiscal budget in May instead of June.
“We will get the budget passed in June, and debate it for a month prior to it”, he said while talking to the journalists at provincial office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) here on Tuesday.
He visited the ECP office for submitting his nomination papers for Senate election in capacity of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party candidate.
He said that the government has made efforts for providing relief to people of the country. In this regard, he added, some Rs 900 billion have been distributed among the provinces during last two years. Similarly, he said, the government has almost doubled the budget of Balochistan to improve its conditions.
It was the reason, he added, that the government has not imposed taxes on the citizens.
