SKMCH to move court against PML-N: Imran
pti chief tells Nawaz to have courage and stop using pawns for propaganda against the hospital
Staff Report
LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership is trying to conceal its corruption by defaming Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH), and its board of governors (BoG) will challenge these allegations in court, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at SKMCH, Imran said the PML-N had also tried to malign the hospital in 1997, due to which the hospital’s donation had gone down considerably. “Now, it has again levelled corruption charges against SKMCH through its leader Hanif Abbasi,” he added.
He said the SKMCH BoG would challenge the charges and produce everything, including cashbooks, accounts and donations’ records, in court. “Instead of deputing a leader or worker for campaign against the hospital, Nawaz Shairf himself should criticise, but he has no courage,” he said. The PTI chief said the hospital was serving the poor masses and every move to malign its reputation created doubts among the people. He said the PML-N should prove its allegations instead of defaming the hospital verbally. “This time, there will be no verbal fights. Rather, we will prove our honesty in the court,” he added.
Later, Imran Khan addressed another press conference at his residence, in which former federal minister Noreiz Shakoor joined the PTI. Imran said that Prime Minister Gilani should resign voluntarily after the SC verdict. He said Gilani was not interested in the country’s welfare, rather he was more interested in protecting President Zardari’s $60 million in Swiss banks. He said Gilani was facing crisis for not pursuing cases of corruption against Zardari.
He said an All-Parties Conference (APC) should be called on setting up of a caretaker government.
He said the PML-N and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had joined hands for their ulterior interests.
He said the people had become disappointed with the government after passing through multiple crises like poverty, unemployment, gas shortage and electricity load-shedding.
Imran said the Punjab government was responsible for the deaths caused by reaction of PIC medicines, adding that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should also resign because he was also holding the portfolio of the Health Ministry. He said the PML-N came into power “five times”, adding that its current tenure was the worst one. He said the PTI was bringing youths on the forefront, and “there will definitely be a change in the system” by this step.
