Nawaz pledges to ‘recover’ missing persons

ISLAMABAD: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif on Friday assured the families of ‘missing persons’ that his party will continue its struggle until their loved ones were recovered. The PML-N chief said this while visiting a camp set up by relatives of ‘missing persons’ in front of the Parliament House. He was accompanied by opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Ishaq Dar and other party leaders. Nawaz Sharif assured the families of his party’s support. He said the constitution and law were helpless over the issue of ‘missing persons’ as nobody was willing to address it. The former prime minister vowed to raise the issue at every available forum. He said he was also ready to amend the law if required. “We cannot tolerate this happening to the families of over 10,000 ‘missing persons’ from across the country. Unidentified people have picked up theses persons even during the rule of the present elected government. Nobody knows about their whereabouts and condition,” Nawaz said. He applauded senior journalist Hamid Mir for his efforts to highlight the issue. Hamid Meer was also present on the occasion. “We live in a society where there is no law and justice,” Sharif said, adding, “Our heads hang in shame as we are still searching for the persons who have been missing for years.” He vowed such a society of oppression could not be tolerated any more and asked why the democratically elected leaders could not address the ‘missing persons’ problem. “I want to assure Balochi brothers that we will raise our voice for them as well. We do not discriminate between provinces,” he added. Meanwhile, a scuffle was also witnessed between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the PML-N workers as they raised voices against each other’s leaders. staff report
