No alliance with ‘politics of gun’, says Imran Khan
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday said that no alliance with the Muttahida Qaumi Movemement (MQM) was possible as any party that did ‘the politics of the gun’ was not acceptable.
Khan was talking to a group of journalists from Sukkur Press Club. He welcomed the journalists and said his travels through Sindh made him realise that interior Sindh was as backward as Balochistan, with feudals and sardars holding sway. He said no leader had really done anything for the poor people of those regions.
The PTI chief said the true democracy was yet come to Pakistan where decentralisation at basic level was still absent. He said that President Asif Ali Zardari had bought all the traditional political forces in the country and vowed that no one could stop the change that was coming.
Khan said the feudal system had to be broken by bringing effective local governments where local people controlled their own lives. He criticised the evils of the patwari system and qabza groups that held power over the poor people.
Replying to a question about the MQM, he said the real issue was not to have a battle with the MQM, but to fight the status quo. “We need to bring rule of law, end corruption and revive meritocracy and enforce tax collection. To make this happen, our fight is with those in power at the centre. Our enemy today is the two main parties,” he added.
