PPP leads by-elections
* PPP’s Natasha Daultana, Hasnain Mirza, Waheeda Shah and Ali Musa Gilani secure victory
LAHORE: The PPP emerged triumphant in the by-elections on Saturday as the ruling party grabbed maximum number of National and provincial assembly seats.
According to unofficial results, ANP and PPP joint candidate Himayatullah Mayar won the by-elections from NA-9 Mardan-I. He received 30,266 votes while his opponent, the JUI-F’s Shujaul Mulk, secured 24,491 votes.
The PPP’s Natasha Daultana won the polls in NA-168 Vihari-2 with 70,551 votes, while her rival, the PML-N’s Bilal Akbar Bhatti, grabbed 46,316 votes.
Makhdoom Syed Mustafa Mahmood of the PML-F won an NA seat from Rahim Yar Khan by securing 81,745 votes. His closest rival was Tariq Chauhan, an independent candidate.
Dr Azeemuddin Lakhvi, an independent candidate, was leading the contest with 47,477 votes from NA-140 Kasur-III. Independent candidate Malik Rashid Khan was chasing close with 47,213 votes.
Hasnain Mirza, the son of former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza, won the provincial assembly seat of PS-57 Badin-I by bagging 40,551 votes. Independent candidate Ali Bux was runner up with 3,600 votes.
Waheeda Shah of the PPP bagged 29,978 votes to win a seat from PS-53, Tando Muhammad Khan. Earlier in the day, Waheeda Shah slapped a female polling officer after levelling allegations of rigging in a polling station of Tando Muhammad Khan.
Adil Abullah of the PML-N bagged 41,337 and emerged victorious from PP-44 Mianwali-II seat.
Ali Musa Gilani , the son of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, won a seat from NA-149 Multan-II. He got 60,000 votes whereas his opponent Ghafar Dogar of the PML-N bagged 28,000 votes.
The PML-N’s Malik Azam Khan got 34,108 votes to lead elections in PP-18 Attock.
