Sindh Festival trends on Twitter with fervour, patriotism

By Saira Agha
The Tweet elite took to the micro-blogging site on Saturday and the preceding days, to express their views and opinions of the infamous, the very talked-about and the much in hype Sindh Festival.
The 15-day event, organised and arranged by Pakistan People’s Party Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the rest of the creative team implementing the idea instigated by Bilawal himself, hosted its opening ceremony in Karachi on Saturday. Twitter went abuzz with people from all walks of life asserting their views with utmost honesty, many of them prominent dignitaries.
Before the opening ceremony began, the arrangements and décor of the entire set-up was debated upon, some critical but most in awe.
Academy Award-winner, documentarian and filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy Tweeted, “Now that’s quite a light show! #SindhFest”, whereas leading entrepreneur and publicist Mehreen Rana also Tweeted about the set-up, “Stunning lighting at the #SindhFestival”. That followed frenzied other various Tweets from a myriad of other users, with one praising Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Aseefa for all their hard work and effor put in, @Sata18G - “#SindhFest opening looks stunning!! Well done @BBhuttoZardari, @BakhtawarBZ, @AseefaBZ and the rest of the organising team”.
In a country fallen prey to chaos and bloodshed, day in and day out, there were some who realised the festivities and the merriment the event had brought with it, at a time when many others were criticising the organisers for “ruining” Sindh’s archaeological site; the Mohenjo-daro. With song and dance highlighting the event and various Pakistani artists and musicians being a part of the ceremony, amongst them were Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Annie Khalid and Ali Gul Pir to name a few, with multiple award-winning model-turned-actress Humaima Malick hosting the night away. Leading journalist Talat Aslam received a multitude of re-Tweets and favourites with his stance, “Meanwhile, a million miles away from all the ugliness, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan performs against the backdrop of Mohenjodaro... #EmoTweet”. Another leading multimedia journalist Abbas Nasir Tweeted, “Good to see something normal like song and dance happening in Pakistan. Jiye Sindh (fest)”.
With peace talks doing the round between Taliban and the Pakistani government, with many in strong opposition amidst tense circumstances, the Sindh Festival proves to be a diversion from all woes. Renowned columnist and lawyer Yasser Latif Hamdani Tweeted, “#SindhFestival is the #Resistance of Pakistan against the #Taliban. Well done young Bhutto”.
The Sindh Festival that commenced on Saturday and ending on February 15, is not a celebration for the Sindhis entirely but for every Pakistani. A Pathan on Twitter was noticed Tweeting the same in that regard, @HannanDurrani – “Im a #Pakhtoon living in #Punjab and enjoying #SindhFestival @BushraGohar @sharmilafaruqi @sherryrehman @monafaisal_ @BBhuttoZardari”.
