Fazl for ‘verbal ceasefire’ before Taliban talks

FAISALABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Fazlur Rehman has said that tribal norms should be taken into consideration before the talks with the Taliban are initiated.
Talking to media on Saturday, he also stressed the need for an end to public speaking before ceasefire between the government and the militants. “Before ceasefire we should control our tongue.” Fazl also called for steps to remove obstacles ahead of peace talks between a government-formed committee and TTP.
To a question about conflicting views of the committee’s members, he stressed that there should not be any difference of opinion on such a serious process. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had implemented resolutions passed by parliament in this regard.
Fazl said he had never presented himself for any role in talks and had instead always called for parliament’s role. He said that he had always remained disassociated from Pervez Musharraf issue. He also prayed for Altaf Hussain and refused to comment over the MQM chief’s recent statement about a potential threat to his life.
