Government, Taliban committees to meet in Islamabad on Tuesday
ISLAMABAD: The committees formed by the government and the Taliban to hold peace dialogue will meet here on Tuesday at 2 PM.
The decision came following a telephone conversation between Maulana Samiul Haq who is a member of the committee nominated by the Taliban and Irfan Siddiqui who is representing the government.
During the conversation, Maulana Samiul Haq informed Ifran Siddiqui that they were serious about the dialogue process. Mulana Samiul Haq also spoke with Major (retd) Aamir.
Speaking to Geo News, Siddiqui said the government’s committee was waiting for a ‘green signal’ from the Taliban’s committee. “We want to have an open dialogue with the Taliban committee.”
Earlier, following a meeting of the Taliban’s committee, Maulana Samiul Haq informed reporters that several attempts would be made to sabotage the dialogue process.
The government’s committee comprises Irfan Siddiqui, Major (retd) Aamir, Rahimullah Yousafzai and Rustam Shah Mohmand. The Taliban have nominated Maulana Samiul Haq, Professor Ibraheem, Mufti Kifayatullah, Maulana Abdul Aziz and Imran Khan. However, the PTI chairman has not announced if he will be part of the Taliban’s committee.
