Taliban have given committee complete mandate for talks: Maulana Sami

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Samiul Haq said the three member committee had been given a complete mandate by the Taliban for talks with the government’s committee .

Maulana Samiul Haq who is a member of the Taliban’s committee nominated to hold talks with their counterparts picked by the government told reporters prior to his departure for Akora Khattak that the doors for talks were open and they were willing to hold a meeting whenever called.

Maulana Samiul Haq in an earlier news conference said all steps would be taken to ensure that peace prevails in the country. He added the government should approach the dialogue process with seriousness. "The government’s committee does not understand the importance of talks," Maulana Sami said.

The government’s committee had excused itself from the meeting as Irfan Siddiqui south a clarification over the status of the Taliban’s committee.

The Taliban in a statement reposed confidence in their three member committee, following which Siddiqui announced they were ready to hold talks.
