Northern Balochistan receives heavy snowfall

QUETTA: Parts of northern Balochistan received heavy snowfall late Monday night. Reports said that heavy snowfall lashed in mountainous areas of Ziarat, Toba Achakzai, Toba Kakari, Barshor, Harboi, Kosak Top and other areas lying on high altitude.

The traffic plying on Quetta-Chaman highway including the local and Afghanistan bound NATO containers were stuck in the traffic jam after Kosak Top and Shila Bagh areas received heavy snowfall that caused blocking the road, a district administration officer said adding that border town of Chaman and Noshki received snowfall after a long time.

A truck heading towards Chaman slipped from the road due to snow heaps in Kosak Top area which result in injuring of three persons while a man was killed and his wife injured as a roof of their house collapsed in heavy rain in Chaman.

Ziarat received eight inch snowfall while the mountains surrounding Ziarat valley received one feet snowfall.

The traffic jam was reported on Ziarat Snajawai road due to snowfall. According to Met Office, 16 inch rainfall was recorded in Kalat and Quetta, 23 inch in Turbat and Oarmara, 13 inch in Khuzdar, 6 inch in Zhob, Barkhan, and one inch in Sibi.

The mountains surrounding Quetta valley also received snowfall.

The mercury dropped to minus temperature. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at minus 2 to 4 in Quetta and 3 to 6 in Kalat hill station. One and half foot snowfall was recorded in Harboi hill station of Kalat. The Met Office also forecast more rain for the provincial capital and parts of northern and central Balochistan on Tuesday.
