Taliban, government committees working properly: PM
LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said the committees formed by the government and Taliban are working properly.
Speaking to reporters after addressing the 37th Export Award Ceremony, Prime Minister Sharif said both committees were in contact. He added that the media was being informed of developments while the government’s committee was also taking the nation into confidence.
During his address, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif criticized the decision to nationalise industries referring to it as an unfortunate decision in the country’s history. “Nationalisation of industries was a major factor behind unemployment in Pakistan.”
The prime minister praised the role of the private sector, adding it was not the job of the government to run businesses. He said banks which had been privatised were paying billions in taxes while public sector banks which were previously in deficit were now turning out profits.
According to Prime Minister Shairf, the country’s wrong polices were the reason for terrorism, militancy and sectarianism. “If our policies were correct there would be no terrorism.”
“There is no room for politics when it comes to terrorism and maintaining security,” Prime Minister Sharif said.
The prime minister attributed the power crisis in the country as a result of polices implemented during the tenure of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf. He added the PPP led government should have solved the power and other crises plaguing the country. “I believe in more implementation and less promises.”
The prime minister said the 10,000 MW power shortage could not be resolved in one day.
Speaking on his meeting with US President Barack Obama, Prime Minister Shairf said he had asked for access to American markets and not aid.
The prime minister announced that work on the Karachi-Lahore motorway would commence soon.
