US stopping drone attacks will benefit peace talks: Imran

ISLAMABAD: In an interview to Bloomberg, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said peace talks with the Taliban would benefit from the US stopping or announcing that it was going to stop drone attacks.

In the interview conducted on February 06, Khan said terrorism would be fueled if talks failed and a military operation followed.

“The most likely result is that the negotiations will start, there will be about three or four big explosions and terrorist attacks and the negotiations will be called off,” Khan told Bloomberg.

“There will be people baying for blood and the operation will start.”

The PTI chairman was critical of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for waiting too long after the May 2013 elections to start talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Khan added that if he was Sharif he would lead the dialogue process. “It’s too important an issue for Pakistan.”
