Shariah already in force in Pakistan: Jamat-e-Islami

LAHORE: Amir Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Syed Munawar Hasan Saturday said that the rulers can pull the country out of crisis by implementing the Constitution of 1973 in its true spirit.

The latest statement of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid in which he said the TTP has been battling for enforcement of Shariah in Pakistan has sparked a new debate in the media.

In a statement, Munawar Hasan said the Constitution clearly accepts Qur’an and Sunnah as a supreme law and pledges that no law will be enacted in the country that is in violation of Qur’an and Sunnah.

“If the rulers enforce the constitution in its true spirit, not only will it steer the country from the quagmire of problems but also fulfill the objectives of Pakistan’s creation,” he stressed.

The General Secretary of JI, Liaquat Baloch ruled out imposition of Shriah through the barrel of gun and killing of innocent human beings.

“The Constitution of Pakistan was chalked out in the light of Qur’an and Sunnah and, in this way, Shariah is very much already in place in the country,” he added.

Opposition leader in National Assembly, Khursheed Shah said a system based on Qur’an and Sunnah is already in force in Pakistan. “We pray for the success of govt committee engaged in peace talks with the Taliban,” he said.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan should been part of the Taliban committee, as it would have brought positive developments in the talks.
