Appointment of 3 members of peace team challenged
Online
ISLAMABAD: Appointment and constitutional status of three members of the government negotiating team has been challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC). The petitioner, Shahid Orakzai, has taken the plea that no one among the three members of government negotiations team, including Rustam Shah, Maj (r) Muhammad Aamir and Rahimullah Yusufzai, is member of National Assembly (NA) and as per assembly rules and procedure no non-elected person can become member of any committee of NA. Irfan Siddiqui, adviser to the prime minister (PM) on national security, has not been made respondent in the petition as he is entitled to take part in NA proceedings as per the constitution. However, he is not authorised to cast vote. Shahid Orakzai said the PM has entrusted a vital matter of national security to non-elected persons. He said the three members of this committee should be forthwith restrained from performing any function and the court should maintain that no one can become member of any committee of NA without taking oath of his membership in the assembly.
