Faiz birthday celebrations begin
LAHORE: The 103rd birthday celebrations of Faiz Ahmed Faiz kicked off with an enthralling performance by the Tarz orchestra ensemble from Karachi at the Al Hamra Cultural Centre.
A number of other exciting events organised by the Faiz Foundation Trust are on the cards. On February 14 Mahmood Farooqui and Danish Hussain will bring the magic of dastangoi to Lahore, with a performance at the Al Hamra Cultural Centre. This will be followed by the annual Faiz Amn Mela at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Open Air Theatre on February 16. The event is being hosted by the PTV in collaboration with the Faiz Foundation Trust and a broad coalition of progressive and leftist groups.
A large number of artists from across the country, including singers, dancers, and musicians, will participate. Deeda-e-Maana Kusha, the first comprehensive glossary of the words, idioms and stanzas used in Faiz’s poetry, will be launched at the Lahore Literature Festival at the Al Hamra Cultural Centre on February 23. Speakers will include well-known authors and critics Dr Amjad Tufail and Dr Tariq Hashmi, and the author of the book, Dr Mohammad Asif Awan. The session will be moderated by the critically acclaimed writer Musharraf Farooqui.
The events will conclude with the celebration of the fifth birthday of Faiz Ghar on March 1. The evening will include a review of the achievements of the Faiz Foundation Trust and the activities of Faiz Ghar over the years. It will be rounded off by the singing of Kalaam-e-Faiz by the Faiz Ghar music class as well as well-known Faiz exponents.
