Nawaz satisfied with progress on Taliban peace talks
ANKARA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over progress of the government committee holding talks with the Taliban to bring an end to the acts of terrorism in the country.
Talking to reporters here, Nawaz Sharif said that the armed forces of Pakistan were supportive of the government's peace initiative.
He said the Taliban have assured of action against those who had committed acts of terrorism in the recent days. He hoped positive outcome of the talks.
To a question, he said democracy and stability in Afghanistan were vital for peace in Pakistan.
About Pakistan India relations, the prime minister said the situation along the Line of Control has improved after a meeting of the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both sides, where it was agreed that neither side will resort to any firing.
He said that Pakistan has also urged the United Nations to play its role in helping resolve the Kashmir dispute.
Nawaz said that Pakistan wants the issue resolved and has also asked India to come to the negotiating table.
He said he also discussed the matter with the US president Barak Obama during his visit to the United States.
