PTI initiates process to become ISO 9000-certified party

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) has initiated a process to become the country’s first ISO 9000 certified political party, PTI Punjab leaders said this during a press conference on Thursday.
They said that PTI leader Andleeb Abbas would be head of the governance and organisation committee in this regard. Speaking on the occasion, Andleeb said that ISO 9000 was an international quality management system which was an effective way of creating professional organisations and ensuring quality standards. She said that the “biggest lacking in political parties in Pakistan and South Asia is lack of management system and accountability which prevents the parties from depending less on personalities”.
She added that Malaysia had made a lot of progress because Mahathir Mohamad in 1997 made it mandatory for all political parties and ministries to become ISO 9000 certified, and it was because of these systems and quality checks on the management of the parties that Malaysia has become an example of progress in the world.
Dr Yasmin Rashid said that the PTI had always been pioneer in doing news things and after conducting intra-party elections for the first time in the country, it was now trying to institutionalise its party operation by having an external auditing firm accessing its systems procedures and processes.
Shafqat Mehmood said that it was heartening to see the PTI Punjab taking this initiative and added the PTI would keep setting new trends and change the culture of the country.
Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed said the PTI would become an institution which will show the PML-N and other parties that it was leading of them in terms of internal governance and accountability.
PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry said that it was a great moment in the political history of Pakistan.
