Third phase of anti-polio drive begins in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The third phase of anti-polio drive ‘Sehat Ka Insaf’ kicks off in the provincial capital city amid high security alert and ban on driving motorbikes, while one policeman has thus far been killed and another injured on Sunday here, Geo News reported.

Police said that 40,000 strong troops have been deployed for ensuring security during the third phase of the Sehat Ka Insaf program.

Notwithstanding such a high security alert, police parties were fired upon and attacked with bomb, as one policeman was killed and another injured, when a planted bomb went off near a police van on Charsada Road, while the terrorists fired volley of shots near a police post in Pahari Pura area here.

Sources said Frontier Constabulary along with the police was also patrolling at Badaber, Matani, Dawoodzai and Sarband in the outskirts here, while Frontier Corp was guarding the tribal and bordering areas of Peshawar.

The district administration has banned motorbike driving for one day from 8.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. today.

Sources said that 6,00,000 children would be vaccinated for the prevention from 9 deadly diseases in the 93 union councils under the Sehat Ka Insaf program.
