Ghazal lovers enthralled by music maestros

KARACHI: Sindh Festival stretched its wings to Ghazal Night on Friday as music connoisseurs enjoyed mellifluous ghazal performances at Mohatta Palace.
The Ghazal Night was held on the second last day of mega cultural event, featuring enthralling presentation by the internationally acclaimed music maestros.
The event promised an unforgettable music fiesta for audience to remember with exceptional blend of ghazals. Actor-cum-anchor Sajid Hasan coordinated the proceedings of the event.
The event started with the performance of Mumtaz Lashari, one of the foremost Sindhi singers of the present generation. His magical voice and music delighted listeners of all age as the atmosphere turned musical on ‘Maran Akharan Je Maa Marjo’.
Humaira Channa enthralled audience with ‘Apna Ahwal Suna Kar Le Jayai’ followed by ‘Mujh Se Pehli Si Muhabbat Meray Mehboob Na Maang’ and ‘Sada Hoon Apne Piyar Ki’. However, she concluded her recital with the Sindhi item ‘Angan Boharyan, Tuhunjiyoon Watoon Niharyan’ which was applauded by the spectators. Following Humaira`s performance, ‘Malika-e-Ghazal’ Farida Khanum entertained the gathering with a rendition of popular ghazals. The singer riveted all with ghazals like ‘Wo Ishq Jo Hum Se Rooth Gaya’, ‘Wo Mujh Se Howe Ham Kalam’ and ‘Aj Jane Ki Zid Na Karo’.
Aisf Mehdi, the son of legendary Mehdi Hassan was the next one. Ghazal and playback singer mesmerizing the audience on ‘Zindagi Mein To Sabhi Piyar Kiya Karte Hein’ and “Ik Husan Ki Devi Se Mujhay Piyar Howa Tha.’
Audience observed a soulful recital of maestro Ustad Ghulam Ali, whose performance marked his ghazal mastery and added a little flavour to audience nightlife. The audience applauded his performance on “Koi Taza Hawa Chali Hai Abhi’. Among audience was Dr VM Lohano, a nearby resident who had come to the event along with his family. “It was a good event especially in the depressing atmosphere of Sindh and particularly in Karachi,” said Lohani while talking to Daily Times. “We enjoyed a lot with our families and are expecting more musical and cultural programmes in the future to refresh our minds,” he added. Fida Hussain Dhakan, another attendee, described Ghazal Night as a perfect excursion. “The appearance of World-renowned singers, the likes of Ghulam Ali, Farida Khanum and Humaira Channa was a special treat for us,” said Fida. “I am excited to be part of this gathering because it provided attendees the proverbial feast for the ears and the heart,” he stated.
