Gilani exempted from appearance in OGRA case

ISLAMABAD: Two former premiers and accused in the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) corruption case, Yusuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf, appeared before the accountability court on Tuesday where Gilani got permanent exemption from appearance, Geo News reported.

The two ex-prime ministers were made accused in a reference pertaining to the illegal appointment of former OGRA chief Tauqeer Sadiq.

The accountability court had earlier summoned six accused including the two premiers to appear in the court today.

During today’s proceedings, Yusuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf were present in the court where Gilani’s lawyer Amjad Iqbal Qureshi pleaded the court to provide permanent exemption to his client in the backdrop of security issues.

He stated that Gilani’s son was still missing and had not been recovered yet.

The court, then, approved the plea and granted exemption to Gilani from appearing in the court.

The hearing was later adjourned till March 5.

While talking to the media after the hearing, Yusuf Raza Gilani said that he respects judiciary and has always ensured his presence whenever summoned.
