Taliban presents demands for ceasefire

PESHAWAR: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has put forward demands for a ceasefire to the government.

TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid informed the media of the Taliban demands which call for an end to the arrest of Taliban members and their deaths in police encounters. The Taliban have also demanded that dumping of their members' bodies be stopped.

The TTP spokesman says a ceasefire will be implemented when the government committee provides assurances to the Taliban committee that demands will be met.

The TTP spokesman claimed the killing of 23 FC personnel was in reaction to the army killing Taliban members on the same day. He added that a list of Taliban members killed during the dialogue process would be issued soon.

Talks between the committees formed by the government and Taliban stalled after 23 FC personnel were killed by the Mohmand Agency Taliban. Following the killing, the government committee informed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that talks could not continue until attacks stopped.
