MQM demands ban on media coverage of Taliban statements

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Coordination Committee has demanded of the government to put a ban on media coverage of statements from the Taliban.

In a statement issued here Wednesday, the MQM’s coordination committee recommended the Government to issue an ordinance to restrict the print and electronic media from publishing or broadcasting of any form of statement from the Taliban.

The committee demanded of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Information Minister Parvez Rasheed and Army Chief General Raheel Shareef to take extreme and crucial steps for the survival and integrity of the country to deal with the unending terrorism of Taliban.

It also appealed to the Government to provide security and protection to all the newspaper and electronic media offices so that the media persons can continue to perform their professional journalistic duties without any pressure or threat.

The coordination committee also appealed to the owners and senior editors of all print and electronic media, in the name of national duty and fervour, to cooperate with the Government on the imposition of ban on Taliban coverage.
