Gilani exempted from appearance in OGRA case

ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court on Tuesday granted exemption to former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani from appearing in the case pertaining to the alleged illegal appointment of former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chief Tauqeer Sadiq.
Former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf appeared before the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir. Gilani’s lawyer Amjad Iqbal Qureshi pleaded to the court to provide permanent exemption to his client because of security issues. He stated that Gilani’s son was still missing and had not been recovered yet. After hearing the arguments, the court accepted the plea and granted exemption to Gilani from appearing in the court.
The two ex-premiers are accused in a reference relating to illegal appointment of former OGRA chief Tauqeer Sadiq. The hearing was adjourned till March 5. While talking to the media after the hearing, Yousaf Raza Gilani said that he respects judiciary and has always ensured his presence whenever summoned.
