PESHAWAR: Opposition members in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday criticised the government over deteriorating law and order situation in the province, while treasury bench declared opposition approach “irresponsible” and devoid of any valuable suggestion for improving the situation.
The provincial assembly was holding debate on law and order situation with Deputy Speaker Imtiaz Shahid in the chair. Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and officials concerned, including IGP and home secretary, were also present in the House.
Taking part in the debate, Leader of Opposition Mehtab Ahmad Khan said the PTI government had given a lot of assurances prior to elections that situation would be improved within three months. However, he claimed, the government has failed to fulfil its promise and it has left people in a state of despondency.
Mehtab said the maintenance of government’s writ and ensuring proper security was the responsibility of provincial government and this onus could not be shifted to anyone. He said that for the last eight months, the government had been making excuses over deteriorating law and order situation and adopted the practice of shifting blame to the federal government or international powers.
He asked the chief minister to take firm decisions and stop practice of taking advice from the PTI’s top leadership.
