Polo Ground case: Decision on Zardari’s plea for acquittal reserved
ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court has reserved its decision on the petition of Asif Ali Zardari seeking acquittal in the Polo Ground reference on Monday here, Geo News reported.
During the hearing, former president Asif Ali Zardari’s counsel Farooq H. Naek argued that the accused Shafi Sahwani in Polo Ground reference had passed away and Saeed Mehdi was acquitted.
He further said that the initial investigation in the reference was conducted by FIA instead of NAB, which was illegal. FIA Inspector Chaudhry Nejabat Hussain was appointed investigation officer, who himself admitted that he had no authorization letter relating to the assignment of this investigation to him.
Continuing his arguments, Farooq H. Naek said that NAB Ordinance Article (d) says NAB alone could conduct investigation in such cases. He said the main accused in this case has been acquitted and there was no space for continuing the reference against the co-accused.
