Govt committed to GB uplift: president

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that his recent meetings with the Chinese leadership focused on the prioritization and early completion of projects that directly and immediately benefit the public. This is consistent with the government’s continued commtiment to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, he said.
He made these remarks during talks with a delegation led by Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs Minister Barjees Tahir in Islamabad on Monday. The delegation consisted of dignitaries from the region.
Hussain said the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor will usher in a new era of socio-economic development in the region, and will open new opportunities for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The corridor would also benefit tourism in the area, he said. The president said that the completion of dams in the area will benefit locals and will help overcome energy shortage in the country.
Hussain said that the government faces numerous challenges, including militancy and terrorism, the revival of the economy and energy shortage, and is taking necessary measures to address these.
