LAHORE: The Pak Army’s PACES (Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System) team won laurels for the country by creating Guinness world record in various categories of physical fitness competitions under the banner of Punjab Youth Festival on Wednesday at the Punjab Sports Stadium.
The first record for set for the maximum push-ups on one hand with a 40-pound backpack in one minute. The previous record of 31 push-ups in one minute by a British soldier was broken by Captain Arbab of the Pak Army, who did 60 push-ups in one minute. In the most push-ups on back of hands with a 60-pound backpack in one minute category, Sepoy Ali Haider did 52 push-ups to break the previous record of 38 push-ups, set by a US citizen.
The record of most push-ups with a 40-pound backpack in one minute by a Lebanese national with 73 push-ups was shattered by Sepoy Zafar Iqbal with 100 push-ups.
The Pak Army officers and jawans have maintained their supremacy in various physical events by proving ‘fittest of the fittest’.
PACES is an initiative to improve the physical training regime within the Pakistan Army.
The programme relies on modern scientific techniques to assist each soldier in achieving requisite fitness standards by concentrating on individual rather than group based development.
