Govt neither angry nor scared of NAB: Nisar
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Sunday said the government is neither angry nor scared of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
“The purpose of Prime Minister’s statement was not to clip the powers of NAB,” the Interior Minister said while addressing a press conference here.
He said the NAB was actually constituted by Pervez Musharraf against Pakistan Muslim League-N.
He said some prominent businessmen had called on the PM, telling him that NAB was harassing them and treating them in an unjust manner. The prime minister’s statement must be viewed in this context, he added.
The Interior Minister said that Chairman NAB was appointed through a consensus between the government and opposition.
To a question regarding investigation into the armed attack on India’s Pathankot air base, he said India had shared some phone numbers with Pakistan and an FIR was registered in Pakistan on that basis.
The Interior Minister told the reporters that some arrests have been made and the authorities will be able to reach any conclusion after conducting a thorough investigation from them.
He said Pakistan had dispatched a letter to Indian authorities through Pakistan’s Ministry of foreign affairs regarding the Special Investigation Team’s intention to visit India. He added that a reply from Indian authorities has been received in which they have given their nod to the SIT’s proposed visit to India.
Chaudhry Nisar said a decision regarding the visit of the SIT to India will be made in the next few days.
Regarding Federal Investigation Agency’s actions in Sindh, he said if Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has any reservations, the court’s doors are open for it.
He said the government is ready to conduct a scrutiny of cases being investigated by the FIA.
Nisar said those who criticize the incumbent government should first take into account the performance of their previous government’s five years in power.
“In their rule, one scandal emerged after another while billions of rupees from the country’s wealth were plundered sans any remorse,” he said.
He said the government never asked the FIA to either arrest or release anyone.
