AJK general elections to be held on time: Majeed

MIRPUR: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Abdul Majeed said on Sunday that the general elections in AJK will be held on time and will not be delayed even for a single hour. Addressing a press conference at the PM House, Majeed said his government was determined to hold the AJK Legislative Assembly Elections by the due date of July 26. He said that NADRA was being consulted for the preparations of the computerised voters lists to ensure holding of the polls in free, fair and transparent manner. To a question, Majeed, who also heads the ruling PPP AJK Chapter, said his party would contest the coming AJK Legislative Assembly Elections independently without relying upon the crutches of any one. “However, the electoral alliance with any like-minded political group or the party could also not be ruled out in view of the suggestions landing from certain political forces to this direction,” he added. He further said the AJK government was striving hard to get settled the issue of the usage of 614 cusecs of water from Mangla Dam for drinking and irrigation purposes, through the execution and completion of the under-construction mega Rs 7 billion Mirpur greater water supply and sewerage project. The AJK PM said the matter of the usage of 614 cusecs of water from local use, was at present pending with IRSA (Indus River System Agency) for onward grant of permission for usage of water from Mangla reservoir as above, he added. He said the government has approved the construction and renovation of 35 kilometres of roads in Mirpur District, including in the city, besides the construction of Asifa Bhutto park on the periphery of Mangla Lake, a grand world-class Islamic university and the military college in Mirpur District.
