* Nisar asks MQM to face criticism in a decent way

* Waseem apologises to nation for remarks against PML-N leadership

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) on Friday called for constituting a parliamentary committee to investigate the recent spate of allegations traded by legislators of both parties against each other’s leadership.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee to probe the issue.

“I leave this matter to the House and parliamentary committee to decide so that such incident should not happen in future,” he said.

He cautioned the MQM not to go wild, saying it needed to face criticism and respond to it in a decent way. “It’s imperative to differentiate truth from the lie,” Nisar said. He said if the MQM did not give up its aggressive tone, the PML-N knew how to reciprocate it in a befitting fashion.

MQM MNA Waseem Akhtar, meanwhile, apologised to the nation, saying that his reaction was natural against Nisar’s aggressive statement.

He said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain has directed them to demonstrate tolerance in reply to any aggressive statement.

Akhtar seconded formation of a parliamentary committee so that everything is made crystal clear. “If any one raises finger at my leader, he should also be ready for a response”, he added.

Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan on Friday urged parliamentarians to avoid making derogatory remarks against any party leader as it would damage the democratic norms. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said, “We have to show political maturity and avoid saying anything about political leadership. The political leadership is very respectable.”
