ANP extends complete support to prime minister
* Gilani says rehab of flood victims top priority of government
* Says special attention being paid to uplift of backward areas
ISLAMABAD: The Awami National Party (ANP) on Friday assured Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani of their party’s complete support and congratulated him on unanimous passage of the 19th Amendment from both the houses of Parliament.
The ANP leaders, who met the prime minister at his chamber in the Parliament House, said that their party would never forget the acceptance of their demand to rename the province and provincial autonomy.
PM Gilani informed the ANP leaders that he would hold a special meeting of MNAs and senators belonging to the flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review the progress of rehabilitation work. He said that rehabilitation of the flood-hit people was the top priority of his government.
About traffic problems of Peshawar, he said the government was intended to start work on construction of flyovers to overcome these problems, adding that he had already announced construction of flyover on University Road in the city. He also directed the quarters concerned to provide funds for water supply schemes of Peshawar.
The PM apprised the delegation about the Chinese government assistance of $ 340 million for road repair work. He said the assistance would help renovate road network in the country. “The government is paying special attention for the uplift of the backward areas to bring these on par with the developed regions of the country,” he added.
He said that he had appointed Woman Ombudsperson belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to empower women. He further said that he intentionally selected a lady from the backward region of the country to raise awareness about the women rights.
Senators Haji Muhammad Adeel, Ilyas Ahmad Bilour and Muhammad Zahid Khan congratulated the Prime Minister on the unanimous passage of the 19th Amendment from both the houses of Parliament.
They said the credit for smooth passage of two constitutional amendments and 67 bills in one year went to him and his government’s reconciliatory policy.
They also briefed the PM about the progress of public development schemes launched through funds provided to them by the government. They also discussed the problems and bottlenecks in early completion of the public development schemes. app
