‘Only president can ask for vote of confidence’
ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Babar Awan said on Monday that according to the Article 91, Sub-Article 70, of the constitution, only President Asif Ali Zardari can ask Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to get a vote of confidence from the National Assembly. Gilani was elected prime minister through a constitutional process and he had no need to get a vote of confidence again, Awan said while talking to reporters outside the Parliament House. He pointed out that in every election from 1970 to 2008, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had got more votes than other parties, adding that the PPP-led government was promoting a reconciliatory policy to strengthen democracy in the country as per the vision of Benazir Bhutto. The minister also claimed that the government had been taking various steps to control inflation. app
