Joint investigation team formed
KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday constituted a joint investigation team headed by the DIG police to probe the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer. Talking to reporters outside Bilawal House, Malik said the team would also include representatives from the Inter-Services Intelligence and the Intelligence Bureau. “We want to ascertain whether it was an act of an individual or someone else is also behind this killing,” Malik said, adding that the governor was shot dead in Islamabad because of his high-profile opposition to the controversial blasphemy law. The assassin was a member of Taseer’s own security team, Malik said, adding, “He confessed that he killed the governor himself because he had called the blasphemy law a black law.” “He has confessed his crime and surrendered his gun to police after the attack,” he said. “The accused, the arrested guard, used to escort the governor from Rawalpindi as per the normal routine,” he said. app
