Envoys’ tributes to Taseer
WASHINGTON/ ISLAMABAD: Ambassadors from several countries and senior American officials paid tributes to assassinated Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer as they recalled courageous and progressive leadership in a condolence book at the Pakistani embassy.
Those who recorded their condolences included State Department officials from the office of special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Washington-based senior diplomats from several Muslim, European and South Asian countries and a number of prominent Pakistani-Americans. The visitors to the embassy praised Taseer as a voice of tolerance and termed his death a great loss for the country.
Meanwhile, European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Vice President of the Commission Catherine Asthon on Friday strongly condemned the assassination of Salmaan Taseer. The spokesperson of Asthon issued the statement saying that she strongly condemned the governor’s brutal murder and expressed her condolences to the bereaved family. app
