Fresh Karachi violence leaves 1 dead, 27 injured
KARACHI: A worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was dead while 27 others sustained injuries in the fresh spate of violent incidents that erupted in the metropolitan city on Saturday, Geo News reported.
Tension gripped most parts of the city where 5 vehicles, including a bus, were set ablaze.
According to police, unknown gunmen opened fire and injured Yawar Abbas, a worker of MQM in Aminabad area of PIB Colony. Abbas was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and pronounced dead.
The incident triggered a wave a violence in surrounding areas of PIB Colony.
Enraged people burned tyres, blocked roads and pelted vehicles with stones, injuring DSP New Town Fakh-ul-Islam.
A bus was among five vehicles set on fire by the miscreants. Police said 14 people, including a TV journalist and a child, were injured when the fuel tank of the bus went off with a blast.
Later, funeral prayer of the slain MQM worker was offered at Imam Bargah Rizvia. He will be laid to rest in Sakhi Hassan graveyard.
