Altaf takes Sh Rashid, Elahi into confidence

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Sunday telephoned Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi. The MQM chief took both leaders into confidence on the decision of his party about sitting on the treasury benches in the National Assembly, according to a statement issued on Saturday. Altaf said that although MQM-associated parliamentarians would sit on the treasury benches, however, they would continue to raise their voice against decisions that are against the interests of the people. The MQM chief also discussed the current political situation of the country with Sheikh Rashid and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi. The MQM had earlier decided to leave the coalition government and sit on the opposition benches, but later withdrew its decision and decided to rejoin the Pakistan People’s Party-led coalition government. app
