Taseer’s family to be provided full security: Shahbaz
* CM says Punjab govt asked federal govt to form judicial commission to probe governor’s murder
LAHORE: Complete security will be provided to late Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer’s family, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday, adding that he did not deserve to die the way he did.
“I myself went to the Islamabad Polyclinic Hospital to pay condolences to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership present at the spot,” he said while talking to the media after his visit to the under-construction forensic labs near Thokar Niaz Beg.
The CM, while replying to a question, said that the Punjab government had asked the federal government for formation of a judicial commission to look into the murder of Taseer’s murder and expressed the hope that the federal government would soon approach the Islamabad High Court in this regard.
Shahbaz said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif had presented a national agenda with a positive approach for mitigating the sufferings of the aggrieved as well as the resolution of problems of the common man.
He said that there could not be a better agenda for the elimination of corruption, strengthening of the democratic system, national solidarity and resolving public problems, adding that full support would be extended to anyone implementing this agenda.
The CM said that Nawaz had presented the agenda in national interest only, without having the intention to hold any public office for himself.
He said that the agenda given by Nawaz is aimed at the elimination of corruption, removal of corrupt elements from their offices, formation of a parliamentary committee to look into corruption scandals and to take action against those elements who got loans of billions of rupees written off on political basis.
To a question regarding load shedding of gas in Punjab, he said that it was unanimously agreed upon in the meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani that Sui gas would be provided to Punjab five days in a week, however, it was unfortunate that the decision had not been implemented. Shahbaz said that immediate implementation of the decisions regarding Sui gas load shedding were essential for smooth functioning of industrial units and saving millions of workers from losing their jobs, adding that the option to protest would be open if the decisions were not implemented.
Commenting on the forensic laboratories the CM said that a highly modernised forensic lab was being established in the city, which will prove to be a milestone in the eradication of crimes from the country, especially from Punjab.
Shahbaz said that the project of setting up a forensic lab of international standard was of vital importance, which would not only help curb the crime rate but also trace the criminals involved in various crimes and bring them to justice. He said that the establishment of this unique lab would not only benefit Punjab but also other provinces of the country.
Shahbaz said that the protection of life and property of people and the eradication of crime was the top priority of the government and setting up of the forensic lab was an important step in this direction. app
