India offers rewards for Samjhota bombing suspects’ arrest

NEW DELHI: Indian police are offering rewards for the arrest of three Hindu suspects in a bomb attack on the Samjhota Express that killed 68 people, mostly Pakistanis, nearly four years ago.

Two bombs exploded on the train, engulfing two coaches in fire. The train was heading to Lahore from New Delhi.

Police initially suspected Pakistani terrorists in the 2007 attack. However, a probe led to the arrest of Swami Asseemanand, a Hindu religious leader, who reportedly confessed and named other Hindus involved in the attack.

The Home Ministry announced awards late of up to $22,200 for the suspects, late Tuesday. ap
