MQM seeks new law against illegal arms

ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday submitted the proposed Deweaponisation of Pakistan Bill 2011 in the National Assembly Secretariat, aiming to clean the country of illegal arms for peace in the country, particularly in Karachi. Having 21 recommendations in the proposed legislative document, the MQM suggested three ladders for deweaponisation of the country, including a cut in the inter-state supply line of illegal arms by taking stern measures to ban unauthorised production, illicit trafficking and possession and use of arms and weapons. The MQM emphasised in the bill that the state should exercise its powers through public representatives to protect integrity of the federation’s territories. MQM leader Farooq Sattar termed illegal weapons a serious threat to national security. staff report
