KARACHI: The Sindh government is going to organise a provincial level All-Parties Conference (APC) on January 26 to discuss law and order situation, and suggest ways and means to improve peace and stability in the province, particularly in Karachi.
Two major coalition partners in Sindh government – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) - on Thursday expressed concern over the prevailing law and order situation and decided to cooperate with each other to promote peace and harmony in the province, especially in Karachi.
In this regard, a meeting of the PPP and MQM leadership was held on Thursday at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik. It was decided that the next meeting of both parties would be held in the first week of February. Leaders of both the parties reaffirmed their pledge to enhance national interests instead of any personal interests.
Separately, another meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House to review law and order situation in the province, particularly in Karachi. Qaim Ali Shah, Rehman Malik and Sindh Home Minister Zulfiquar Mirza attended the meeting.
The meeting lauded the role of police, rangers and the Interior Ministry, particularly the efforts being made by the Sindh home minister and Sindh police for crushing criminal activities of anti-social elements and maintaining peace.
The CM and home minister lauded the assistance being extended by the federal government for improving the situation in all parts of Karachi.
It was also decided that there would be close coordination and liaison among the CM, interior minister and home minister, who would regularly meet on a fortnightly basis.
Malik said the federal government and rangers would promptly coordinate with the Sindh Home Department and the Sindh government to ensures measures are being following and implemented in the province. Both parities lauded the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari and MQM chief Altaf Hussain for their guidance and promotion of peace, particularly in Karachi.
