MQM tables bill for taxing agri income
ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Senator Tahir Mushhadi Saturday tabled a Constitutional amendment bill for imposing tax on income from agriculture, Geo News reported.
The bill submitted with Senate Secretariat proposes amendment in an Article of the Constitution for bringing agriculture income into the tax net.
In a statement, Senator Tahir Mushhadi said imposition of tax on income from agriculture will generate Rs200 billion revenue for the government.
He said income above Rs600,000 should be brought under tax net and rich people be taxed with a view to broaden the tax base.
Tahir Mushhadi also tabled an adjournment motion in the Senate against the massive lay-offs by KESC.
