Gabol meets PM, withdraws resignation
ISLAMABAD: Nabeel Gabol, who tendered his resignation as State Minister for Ports and Shipping on Wednesday, took back his resignation after meeting Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday.
Gabol met Premier Gilani, who promised that the concerns raised by the state minister would be addressed. Soon after Gabol's resignation on Wednesday, police rounded up his 11 guards from his residence in the port city of Karachi.
Gabol, a close confidant of President Asif Ali Zardari and a central leader of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had alleged that his guards have been taken away by police in a commando-style raid.
Nabeel Gabol had resigned from his cabinet post on Tuesday in protest saying he felt powerless in taking important decisions within his ministry and that he was unable to address the issues of his constituency.
