Islamabad to get provincial assembly soon: Babar Awan
ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister, Babar Awan, has announced that the federal capital will get its own provincial assembly soon.
Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the allotment of land to lawyers’ chambers on Friday, Babar said that the status of Islamabad was like a small province, therefore, administratively the capital city could not be shadowed by any of the province.
The minister said that residents of Islamabad would have their own provincial assembly and system of self-governance. He, however, did not comment on modalities regarding the establishment of Islamabad provincial assembly. He said that legislation for the establishment of Islamabad Bar Council was in process. He said he had directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to commission a PC-1 for the construction of a modern building for lawyers’ chambers and a hospital like the Poly Clinic. He said that a modern judicial complex being built in Islamabad would also be completed within given time frame. The complex would provide swift justice to the residents of Islamabad at their doorsteps, he added.
Babar also said the government with mutual consultation of all the stakeholders would resolve the long-standing issues. app
